The Central Long Island Sound Disposal Site (CLDS, also historically referred to as CLIS) is located approximately 10.4 kilometers (5.6 nautical miles) south of South End Point, East Haven, Connecticut. This general location has been utilized for the disposal of sediments dredged from surrounding harbors for at least 60 years, with well-documented disposal locations since 1973. The site has been regularly monitored by the DAMOS Program since 1979. The current boundary of CLDS is a rectangle measuring 4.1 × 2.0 kilometers (2.2 × 1.1 nautical miles) with a total area of 8.2 square kilometers (2.4 square nautical miles) centered at 41° 08.95' N and 72° 52.95' W (NAD 83).
