CONCORD, Mass. – A project for sewer line replacement to the Colebrook River Lake dam in Colebrook, Conn., will be completed under the terms of a $118,000.00 contract recently awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.
Work will be accomplished by Ironclad Services, Inc. of Springfield, Mass. The contract was awarded on March 2, 2017. Once a notice to proceed is issued construction will be authorized to start. All work, except paving and seeding, is anticipated to be completed within 45 days. The project will be executed in 2017.
The work involves removing and replacing 260 feet of existing 6-inch diameter cast iron sanitary sewer pipe from the existing sanitary sewer manhole #1 (SMH #1) to SMH #2; removing and replacing 700 feet of existing 6-inch diameter cement concrete sanitary sewer pipe from the existing SMH #2 to existing septic tank; removing and replacing 7 cubic yards of bituminous concrete pavement at the driveway and roadway crossings; and raising existing sanitary sewer manhole frame and cover of SMH #2 and SMH #3 approximately 6 inches to existing finished grade. SMH #2 and SMH #3 are located in lawn areas and the rim and cover will remain flush with surrounding lawn area grades.
Colebrook River Lake dam on the West Branch of the Farmington River in Colebrook was completed in 1969 at a cost of $14.3 million. At capacity, the 1,300-foot-long, 223-foot-high dam can impound a lake of 1,185 acres containing 16.5 billion gallons of water. To date, the project has prevented damages of $92.7 million. Recreational opportunities abound at Colebrook River Lake and include boating (with a launching ramp), fishing, ice fishing and hunting. Nearly 158,000 visitors enjoy the recreational pursuits at Colebrook River Lake each year.
