CONCORD, Mass. – Energy improvements to the Cape Cod Canal field office in Buzzards Bay, Mass., will be completed under the terms of a $1,049,000.00 contract recently awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.  Work will be accomplished by Brican, Inc., of Springfield, Mass. The contract was awarded on Sept. 29, 2015.

Work consists of replacing the existing propane infrared heating system in the maintenance shed and maintenance building with a new natural gas infrared heating system with electric heaters in certain areas of the maintenance building. Additional renovations to the maintenance building are included in the project.

The existing electric forced air heating system in the garage of the ranger annex will be replaced with an infrared heating system. Heating in other areas of the building is not impacted or changed as part of this project. Additionally, a ventilation air system will be added in all three buildings to comply with current code requirements.

The existing exterior walls and roof (blanket insulation and metal siding) of the maintenance building also will be replaced with a new insulated metal panel. Additional lighting and plumbing renovations will be performed in the bathroom/locker area of the maintenance building.   

The project will be managed by the Corps under the supervision of a Corps’ Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
