CONCORD, Mass. – A road repair project at Union Village Dam in East Thetford, Vermont, will be completed under the terms of a $149,687.50 contract recently awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District. Work will be accomplished by Granite State Lawn Care, of Claremont, New Hampshire. The contract was awarded on April 7, 2015.

Work consists of the repair to a failed edge of the existing gravel road and top of slope on Buzzell Bridge Road at a location 2 miles northwest of the Union Village Dam in Thetford. The repairs will require the installation of a 200-foot rock-filled wire basket wall along the top of the slope and the reestablishment of the full width of the existing gravel road. The failed portion of the existing gravel road will be repaired by replacing lost gravel material with structural soils and aggregate.

The gravel road edge will be extended 2 to 3 feet beyond its original width. Precast concrete blocks will be placed along the northwesterly edge of the road to act as vehicle protection against going over the edge of the steep slope.

The work also consists of the installation, maintenance, and removal of erosion and sediment control measures; the removal of 12 inches of gravel along the gravel road and two parking areas, and replacing the removed material with structural soils and aggregate; providing 350 feet of dirt drainage ditch along the southeasterly edge of the existing gravel road; the removal and replacement of two existing 18-inch corrugated metal pipe culverts with two new 24-inch plastic pipe culverts; and providing armored rock inlet and outlet protection at both new culverts.

The project will be managed by the Corps of Engineers and all work will be accomplished under the supervision of a Corps’ Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
