Published May 23, 2014

CONCORD, Mass. Repairs to the Bridgeport Harbor east and west breakwaters in Bridgeport, Conn., and the New Haven Harbor east, middle and west breakwaters in New Haven, Conn., will be completed under the terms of a $7,459,500.00 contract awarded recently by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.

Work will be accomplished by Mohawk Northeast, Inc., of Plantsville, Conn. Construction is scheduled to start on or about July 15, 2014 and take about 12 - 18 months to complete. The contract was awarded on May 20, 2014.

“This project consists of repairing the Bridgeport and New Haven breakwaters and restoring them to pre-storm conditions,” said Project Manager Daniel Stenstream, of the Corps’ New England District, Programs/Project Management Division in Concord, Mass. “Work will include mobilization and demobilization, furnishing, delivery and placement of new armor stone to replace stones displaced during Hurricane Sandy and to fill in gaps and low points along the breakwaters. Repairs are being performed to restore the breakwaters to originally authorized profiles and dimensions.”

Repairs will require substantial moving and manipulation of existing stones to obtain the required grades and stone interlocking. Access to all breakwaters will be by water and mobilization of equipment and materials will require marine construction methods and resources. The project will be managed by the Corps under the supervision of a Corps’ Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
