Town of Marshfield Airport Commission seeks Corps permit to place fill material for work at George D. Harlow Field Airport

CONCORD, Mass. – The town of Marshfield Airport Commission is seeking a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District to conduct work in waters of the United States in conjunction with proposed work at the George D. Harlow Field Airport in Marshfield, Mass.

 

The town of Marshfield Airport Commission is proposing to place fill material within 2.96 acres of wetlands at the George D. Harlow Field Airport at Old Colony Lane in Marshfield in conjunction with the reconstruction of Runway 6-24, parallel taxiway and safety areas. The work is proposed in wetlands located along the runway at the airport.  

 

The basic project purpose is to provide for safe aviation operations at the airport. The overall project purpose is to enhance the safety of aircraft and the public using the airport by improving the runway and taxiway and their appurtenant facilities to meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards. FAA standards can be reviewed on the FAA website at www.faa.gov.

 

The application for the federal permit was filed by the town of Marshfield Airport Commission with the Corps in compliance with Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, which regulates the discharge or fill of material in United States waters, including wetlands.
