CONCORD, Mass. – Greenhaven Marina is seeking a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District to conduct work in waters of the United States in conjunction with maintaining a mooring field, extending a dock and installing a lift in Pawcatuck, Conn.
Greenhaven Marina is proposing to retain and maintain an existing mooring field, realign and extend existing floating dock trees and gangways, install a travel lift and tie-off piles, and relocate existing wetlands in the travel lift area. The work is proposed in Pawcatuck River at 31 Riverside Drive in Pawcatuck.
The proposed project includes work in navigable waters for retaining an existing mooring field and the extension of the existing eastern and western floating dock trees and associated gangways so as to optimize operating space and provide safe navigation within the Greenhaven Marina.
The applicant is seeking to maintain two mooring fields; one mooring field to the west of the property and one to the east. The western mooring field will have six removable moorings and three fixed moorings. The eastern mooring field will have two removable moorings and four fixed moorings.
New work will include the relocation of the western and eastern dock trees so that they are parallel with property lines. The applicant is proposing to extend the western and eastern dock trees by two finger docks. The western dock tree and eastern dock tree will extend an additional 42 feet and 22 feet respectively, with six anchor piles added to the western dock and two anchor piles added to the eastern dock. The center system will be extended an additional 84 feet with an 8-foot by 18-foot T-head and five anchor piles. Work also includes installing a timber pier, an aluminum deck, a timber ramp and an aluminum gangway.
The application for the federal permit was filed by Greenhaven Marina with the Corps in compliance with Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act, which provides for federal regulation of any work in, or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
