Published Oct. 2, 2018

CONCORD, Mass. Spillway bridge concrete repairs to the Tully Lake dam in Athol, Massachusetts, will be completed under the terms of a $648,585.00 contract recently awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.

Work will be accomplished by Gardner Construction & Industrial Services, Inc. of Chicopee, Massachusetts. The contract was awarded on Sept. 18, 2018. Once a notice to proceed is issued by the Corps of Engineers construction will be authorized to start.

Work will focus on concrete repair work which will include the rehabilitation of the concrete spandrel and wingwalls and replacement of joint materials in all expansion joints along the spandrel walls and parapets located on the southern half of the bridge from midspan to the south abutment. The repair work requires the removal of unsound and deteriorated concrete at locations identified in the plans. Joint material replacement work requires the removal of all existing loose or deteriorated joint materials from all expansion joints within the area of work. The final locations and areas of concrete repair and depth of joint material replacement will be based on sounding the concrete and visual inspections performed by the contractor in the field.

The repair project will be managed by the Corps of Engineers and all work will be accomplished under the supervision of a Corps’ Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
