Corps of Engineers awards contract for electrical transformer replacement at CRREL in Hanover

CONCORD, Mass. Construction services for electrical transformer replacement at the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) in Hanover, New Hampshire, will be completed under the terms of a $1,795,700.00 contract recently issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.

 

Work will be accomplished by Mohawk Valley Utility Construction Corp., of Albany, New York. The contract was awarded on Sept. 28, 2017. Once a notice to proceed is issued by the Corps of Engineers, construction will be authorized to start. Once started, construction is scheduled to take about 6 months to complete.

 

The work involves supervision, plant, labor, materials, tools and equipment to carry out all work and operations as necessary. Demolition work will include disconnecting, removing and disposing of existing conductors currently powering the Main Lab Building and the Main Lab Addition unit substations and abandoning the existing duct bank used to run these cables in place.

 

Additionally, the contractor will demolish, remove and dispose of four oil-filled transformers and a switch cabinet containing five switches in the Main Lab Building basement. The contractor also will demolish, remove, and dispose of two dry-type transformers and one switch assembly cabinet in the Main Lab Addition sub-basement.

 

The contractor will provide four pad mounted transformers and two pad-mounted double-ended switchgear. Additional optional work may include the execution and disposal of contaminated soil in accordance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations.

 

The project will be managed by the Corps of Engineers and all work will be accomplished under the supervision of a Corps’ Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
