CONCORD, Mass. – Emergency Gate Slot repairs to the Tully Lake dam in Royalston, Mass., will be completed under the terms of a $144,920.00 contract recently awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District. Work will be accomplished by The Aulson Company of Methuen, Mass. The contract was awarded on Aug. 4, 2017.
Once a notice to proceed is issued by the Corps of Engineers construction will be authorized to start. Once construction starts it is scheduled to be completed within four months.
This project consists of the following components: 1) Dewater the conduit using the existing trash racks. There are two parallel conduits and only one conduit will be dewatered at a time; 2) Remove and replace vertical steel rails and hardware from pre-existing gate wells for the emergency gates within the Gate Tower. These rails are held in place to the embedded steel C-Channels using anchor bolts; 3) Install steel sheet plates onto existing vertical T-sections using new bolts, also within the gate slots; 4) Remove lead-containing paint from the remaining C-Channels that are embedded in the concrete that make up the gate wells. Apply new paint to the embedded C-Channels; 5) Once the conduits are dewatered and an inspection can be made, repair any concrete spalling in the conduit walls as needed.
The repair project will be managed by the Corps of Engineers and all work will be accomplished under the supervision of a Corps’ Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
