Corps to hold information outreach sessions on inland and tidal aspects of Massachusetts General Permits at five locations

CONCORD, Mass. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District recently issued the statewide Massachusetts General Permits (GPs) for minimal-impact activities subject to Corps jurisdiction in waters of the U.S. within the boundaries of, and off the coast of, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, excluding work within the boundaries of Indian Tribal lands. These GPs became effective on Feb. 4, 2015.

The GPs were issued in accordance with Corps regulations at 33 CFR 320-332 [see 33 CFR 325.5(c)(1)]. The GPs will protect the aquatic environment and the public interest while effectively authorizing activities that have no more than minimal individual and cumulative adverse effects on the aquatic environment. The Corps held 12 outreach information webinars to explain the Massachusetts GPs in March 2015. The Corps will present similar material on the inland and tidal aspects of the Massachusetts GPs at five workshops across the state from April 27 through May 1, 2015.

A Cape Cod workshop will be held on Monday, April 27, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Innovation Room (Room E), Building 7, Barnstable County Complex, Route 6A, 3195 Main Street in Barnstable, Mass. A Southeast workshop will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Southeast Massachusetts DEP Office, 20 Riverside Drive, in Lakeville, Mass.

A Northeast workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Billerica Public Library, 15 Concord Road, in Billerica, Mass. A Western workshop will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2015 from 1-4 p.m. in the Holyoke Boat House, Mount Holyoke College, 50 College Street in South Hadley, Mass. A Central workshop will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 1-4 p.m. at the Central Massachusetts DEP Office, 8 New Bond Street in Worcester, Mass.
