Public Meeting of the International St. Croix River Watershed Board to be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, in Calais, Maine

The International Joint Commission’s (IJC) International St. Croix River Watershed Board (Board) is holding its annual public meeting on the evening of Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014 at 6:00 pm Eastern time, 7:00 pm Atlantic time.  The meeting will be held at the Washington County Community College, at One College Drive (on Route 1) in Calais, Maine.

 

IJC Canadian Commissioner Hon. Benoit Bouchard and U.S. Commissioner Dereth Glance will provide opening remarks and they look forward to hearing from local stakeholders that live near the boundary water. 

 

U.S. Board Co-Chair Colonel Charles Samaris, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District commander, will provide the Board’s annual report.  Colonel Samaris noted that 2013 was a good water year with above average flows in the river.  Canadian Co-Chair Bill Appleby will be at meeting to answer questions on Board activities.

 

Bob Lent, Maine District Chief, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Board member, will provide a presentation on Spednic Lake studies including a modeling project that estimates past lake surface water temperature. There also will be information on planning for the fall 2014 Science Forum.
