The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District announced today that the district is in the early planning stages for necessary maintenance and repair of the Stamford Hurricane Protection Barrier in Stamford, Connecticut.

USACE is currently evaluating construction alternatives to complete this work, some of which may require temporary closures of the harbor. The district anticipates awarding a construction contract in 2026 and any construction plans will seek to minimize disruption to the community.

The barrier continues to operate at full capacity, with USACE committed to its maintenance and operational integrity. As we refine the project's design and details, USACE will actively share updates and seek input from the public.

Mariners and harbor stakeholders are advised to remain alert for advisories through marine radios and to contact the East Branch Navigation Gate office at (978) 318-8807 for specific channel closure information. USACE officials also recommend mariners monitor U.S. Coast Guard announcements for any messages concerning the barrier.
