USACE announces closure of Hop Brook Lake swimming area due to bacteria levels in water

USACE, New England District
Published June 30, 2022

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District announced today that the swimming area at Hop Brook Lake in Middlebury, Connecticut, is closed until further notice. The closure is due to the results of water quality testing which indicated that bacteria levels in the lake exceed Connecticut State Standards.

The swimming area will remain closed through the Fourth of July holiday and until the next scheduled testing period next week. The swimming area will re-open when water quality test results are satisfactory.

All other recreational activities and facilities at Hop Brook Lake will remain open. The recreation site is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily and closes the weekend after Labor Day. Picnic shelter reservations can be made by calling the National Recreation Reservation Service toll free at (877) 444-6777 or online at www.recreation.gov.
