The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District announced today that the parks at Otter Brook Lake Beach and Surry Mountain Lake Beach are closed for the season due to flooding resulting from historic rainfall in July.

Otter Brook Lake Beach park, in Keene and Roxbury, New Hampshire, and Surry Mountain Lake Beach park, located on the Ashuelot River in Surry, New Hampshire, have both been closed since early July due to flooding. Both parks received approximately 18 inches of rainfall during the month and recreation facilities remain under water.

The dams at both locations are fully functional and operating as to be expected, holding back water to protect downstream communities. When the water recedes, USACE staff will assess damage to buildings, roads, beaches and lawn areas. Repairs and debris cleanup will begin when possible, but the decision has been made that the parks will not be re-opened for the 2021 season, which typically runs through Labor Day weekend.
