CONCORD, Mass. – A replacement Fuel Hydrant System will be constructed at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee, Mass., under the terms of a $24,480,300.00 contract issued recently by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.
Work will be accomplished by Structural Associates, Inc. (SAI) of East Syracuse, New York. The project is scheduled to start in September 2013 and take two years to complete. The contract was awarded on May 28, 2013.
“The award of this project is key to the Westover ARB continuing to meet the mission and a very significant economic boost that provides living wage jobs to the surrounding community,” said Project Manager Bud Taylor, of the Corps’ New England District in Concord, Mass.
This project will be to construct a pressurized hydrant fuel system with 14 hydrant outlets and two 795-kiloliter above ground fuel storage tanks. Work will include modifying an existing pumphouse, and constructing truck fillstands; hydrant hose truck checkout; product recovery system; and modifying an existing transfer pipeline.
Work will also include all necessary pumps, valves, filters, control systems, fire protection, emergency generator and enclosure, utility and sewer connections, access pavements, fencing, security lighting, and other work. It will include demolishing or decommissioning the existing hydrant system pumphouse, underground tanks, piping and associated facilities.
The project will be managed by the Corps and all work will be accomplished under the supervision of a Corps’ Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
