Mr. Scott Acone joined the Corps of Engineers as an Engineer Intern with the New England District in 1988. Upon completion of the intern program, he worked in Water Control Branch as a hydraulic engineer. In addition to performing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for planning and design, Mr. Acone managed the District’s Periodic Inspection Program for the dams and hurricane barriers. He became the District’s ice engineering expert, responding to numerous ice jam events during the 1990’s.
In 1999, Mr. Acone moved from Engineering to Project Management as a project manager, eventually becoming the Chief of the Military and Environmental Project Management Branch in 2010. During his time as a Project Manager, several of his projects received significant awards, including the Eastland Woolen Mill Superfund Site, which was awarded both the National Honor Award for Engineering Excellence from the American Council of Engineering Companies in 2003 and the 2004 Build America Award for Environmental Remediation from the Associated General Contractors of America.
Other significant projects that Mr. Acone has been involved with include: Elizabeth Mine Superfund Site in Vermont; the Central Artery and Tunnel Stem to Stern Safety Review of the Big Dig Project; and the Nacala Dam, where he provided engineering oversight and review to the Millennium Challenge Corporation for a rehabilitation and raising of an earthen dam in Mozambique, Africa to provide additional clean drinking water to the region.
Mr. Acone was the Chief of Engineering and Planning Division from 2013 through the summer of 2016, where he led 140 technical and administrative professionals in the planning and design of water resources, environmental, and military projects across New England. Mr. Acone currently serves as the Chief of Programs and Project Management Division, leading the execution of about $250M annually in projects across the Corps’ business lines. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and a Project Management Professional. He is a graduate of the North Atlantic Division, Executive Leadership Development Program (ELDP). Mr. Acone has received numerous awards, including the Joint Civilian Service Achievement Award, Superior Civilian Service Award, and has been recognized by other agencies with awards for excellence.
Mr. Acone is a member of the NAD Regional Management Board, the Corps of Engineers Urban Search and Rescue Program, and of the Society of American Military Engineers.
