Mr. Mark Anderson began working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as an Engineering summer hire and co-op with Rock Island District in 2000. Upon his graduation from Clarkson University in 2003 he transferred to New England District.

After completing the Department of the Army Intern Program in 2005, Mr. Anderson was assigned to the Environmental Engineering Section supporting the District’s Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund programs. Some of Mr. Anderson’s larger projects included the New Bedford Harbor Superfund site and the Atlas Tack Superfund site which received the 2008 AGC Build America Award in the Environmental New Construction Category.

 

In 2008 Mr. Anderson took a temporary assignment as Action Officer for the Director and Deputy Director of Task Force Hope (TFH) in New Orleans, LA. Upon his return to the New England District Mr. Anderson again assumed his duties as an Engineering Technical Lead. This time his projects included Joint Base Cape Cod (JBCC) environmental and munitions cleanup and the New Bedford Harbor Superfund site. In 2010 Mr. Anderson was named the JBCC Engineering Team Leader and was promoted to Senior Engineering Technical Lead. In 2013 Mr. Anderson completed a seven-month temporary assignment as Deputy Chief, Construction Division, and in January 2014, he was promoted to Chief, Environmental Engineering Section. In February 2017 he completed a four- month temporary assignment dual-hatted as Deputy Chief, Engineering Division and Chief of the Geo- Environmental Engineering Branch. In March 2017, Mr. Anderson was named the Chief of the Military Project Management Branch.

Mr. Anderson is a registered Project Management Professional, Engineer in Training in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and completed his Master of Science in Civil Engineering (UMass-Lowell) in May 2011. He completed the New England District Leadership Development Program and the Army CP-18 National Leadership Development Program, graduated from the Army Management Staff College and completed the North Atlantic Division Executive Leadership Development Program. He has been awarded the Achievement Medal for Civilian Service (2005) for his response to Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma, the EPA Bronze Medal for Commendable Service for his work on the Atlas Tack Superfund site, the Joint Civilian Service Commendation Award (2017), Achievement Medal for Civilian Service (2018), and the Civilian Award for Humanitarian Service (2019) for his response to Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, and the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal (2020) for his support to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Anderson is a member of the USACE Headquarters ESF#3 Assistant Team Leader Cadre for emergency response activities. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Society of American Military Engineers, Boston Post.
