CONCORD, Mass. – Upgrades to the Frost Effects Research Facility and the Child Development Center of the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) in Hanover, N.H., will be completed under the terms of a $148,300.00 contract recently awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.

Work will be accomplished by Broadview Construction Corporation, of Laconia, N.H. The contract was awarded on Sept. 30, 2013. Construction is scheduled to take approximately 4 months to complete from the date of receipt of the notice to proceed.

Child Development Center upgrades include removal of all existing windows on the first floor and replacement with new ones. Work includes all prep work, clean up, patching as necessary and all final interior and exterior trims. Work also includes two new gutters and downspouts and gravel bed at the downspouts to distribute the water on the site away from the building.

Option items include Frost Effects Research Facility upgrades for the removal, disposal and replacement of four existing storage doors, frames, and hardware. The new door frame will include heating perimeter element as per manufacturer requirements for cold door type rated for – 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Work includes replacing cold door canopies and electric work. 

The project will be managed by the Corps and all work will be accomplished under the supervision of a Corps’ Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
