The Upper Connecticut River Basin extends ...................... The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers welcomes you to Buffumville Lake. For year-round outdoor recreation, visit Buffumville Lake and Park. The park has a 300-foot-long beach with an enclosed swimming area for your safety. Picnic tables and grills are located throughout the park, and two picnic shelters can be reserved along with a volleyball court and horseshoe.

From Interstate 395, take Exit 4B Oxford center. Continue straight for 3 miles to Buffumville Park. The Buffumville Lake office is on Old Oxford Road (Buffums Dam Road), 2 1/2 miles from the Interstate. From the Massachusetts Turnpike, take the Sturbridge exit and follow Route 20 to Charlton. Take a right onto Route 31 and follow the signs to Buffumville Lake. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers welcomes you to Buffumville Lake. The natural setting surrounding Ball Mountain Lake is enjoyed by a variety of visitors. Panoramic views from the overlook area at the dam offer sightseers, photographers, picnickers, and hikers pleasing views of Stratton and Bromley Mountains. Two weekends a year Ball Mountain Dam releases water for whitewater rafting, canoeing, and kayaking.

From I-91N take the US-5 exit, exit 1, toward Brattleboro. Turn right onto Canal ST/ US-5. Turn slight left onto Main ST/ US-5 N. Continue to follow US-5 N. Turn slight left onto Park PL/ US-5 S/ VT-9 S. Turn right onto Linden ST/ VT-30. Continue to follow VT-30. Turn slight right onto Ball Mountain Ln. Follow signs.

From Concord, NH/Boston, MA area: I-89 North to I-91 North (St. Johnsbury/White River Junction) Exit 11 (White River Junction/Rt 5) off of I-91 left onto Route 5 South for approximately 5 miles right onto Clay Hill Road

From Springfield, VT/Hartford, CT area: I-91 North to exit 9 (Hartland/Windsor) left onto Route 5 North for approximately 6 miles left onto Clay Hill Road

With 1,361 acres of land ranging from forests and fields to wetlands and two lakes, North Springfield Lake has recreational opportunities for everyone! In summer months, visitors can swim, sunbathe, and picnic. Anglers can try their luck in our lake, pond, or rivers. Two boat ramps are available, and this is a popular location for canoeists to explore the beauties of North Springfield Lake or Stoughton Pond.

To North Springfield Lake from Springfield: Take Route 106 North 3 miles to Reservoir Road, go right 1 mile, the dam and lake are on the left.

Otter Brook Lake offers many recreational opportunities that everyone can enjoy. Swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, canoeing, and fishing are just a few of the summertime favorites at Otter Brook Lake. A shaded brook meanders through the park with picnic tables along its bank. If you prefer the sun and sand the beach with a roped-off swimming area is the place to be. If volleyball or baseball is your idea of fun, there are plenty of grassy areas to set up a game, and horseshoe pits are available throughout the park. During the winter, visitors enjoy cross country skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.

Otter Brook Lake recreation area and beach is located off of Route 9 East, in Keene. The dam and field office is located off of Route 101, on Branch Road in Keene.

Surry Mountain Lake offers year round fun for everyone. Swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, canoeing, horseshoes and volleyball are some of the summertime favorite activities enjoyed at Surry Mountain Lake. The recreation area offers a 600 foot long sandy beach, with a swimming area, boat ramp and picnic tables with grills. During the winter, visitors enjoy cross country skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Hunting and fishing are also favorite activities at Surry Mountain Lake. With over 1600 acres of managed land and a 265 acre lake, Surry Mountain Lake, offers the hunter, angler, wildlife photographer and birder great opportunities to see various species of wildlife.

Surry Mountain Dam is located on Surry Dam Road off of Route 12A, the recreation area is on 12A in Surry NH.

Nestled in the foothills of the Green Mountains, Townshend Lake offers lots of outdoor recreation fun. From the third Saturday in May through the Sunday after Labor Day in September, Townshend Lake Recreation Area is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Families come to enjoy the extensive shaded picnic areas overlooking the swimming and play areas. Picnic tables, grills, drinking fountains, horseshoe pits, volleyball set-ups, grassy play areas, and three modern restrooms are provided for the enjoyment of our vistors. Family reunions and special get-togethers can be enjoyed here at any of the three convenient picnic shelters with large grills.
