Description

This is a small, “mouse gray” bird. They have a tufted crest on their head. The flanks are a rusty red.

Voice

A clear peter, peter, peter. They are very vocal birds.

Habitat

Tufted titmice can be found in woodlands, groves, and at bird feeders.

Diet

They eat seeds.

Range

Tufted titmice are found throughout the eastern United States and go as far west as Minnesota and down to Texas.

Other Useful Information

There is a Texas variation of the tufted titmouse. Instead of having a gray colored tuft like most tufted titmice, the Texas version’s tuft is black.
