Description

The savannah sparrow has a brown back and a white belly and chin. It has a short squared-off tail that is notched when folded. Its breast and sides are streaked with brown and it has a brown and white striped face. The savannah sparrow has a light-colored stripe between its eyes and a yellow patch in front of each eye.

Voice

The savannah sparrow's call is "tsip" and its song is "tsit tsit tsit tseeee tisoooo."

Savannah sparrows like open fields, meadows, marshes, and prairies.

Diet

These sparrows like to eat insects and grass and weed seeds.

Range

You can find these birds in Canada and the northern United States during the summer. They spend their winters in Mexico and the southern United States.
