Description

Male ruby-throated hummingbirds have a fiery red throat, iridescent green back and a forked tail. The females lack the red throat, have a blunt tail and have white spots on the tail. This is the only wide spread hummingbird found in the east.

Voice

Male’s wings hum while they are doing their courtship display to attract females.

Habitat

Flowers, gardens, streams, and wood edges.

Diet

They feed on nectar from flowers.

Range

They can be found from Maine down to Florida and westward to Minnesota down to Texas.
