Description

As the name implies, the red-tailed hawk has a red tail on top, and which can show through to underneath when seen when soaring. Immatures have a brownish gray tail with pale banding.

Voice

A drawn-out scream of keer-r-r.

Habitat

This is a common roadside and forest edges bird. They are also found in open fields, prairies, mountains, and the plains.

Diet

Small birds and mammals.

Range

Red-tailed hawks are found all throughout North America.
