Eastern Kingbird

Description

They have a white band on the tip of their tail. There is a red crown on the top of their head. However, it is often covered and rarely seen. The top of the bird is a dark gray with the underneath being white and a light gray on the breast.

Voice

It has a rapid shutter of high notes of dzee-dzee=dzee and kit-kit-kitter-kitter.

Habitat

They are often found at woodland edges, farms, orchards, and along roadsides.

Diet

They primarily eat insects and fruit.

Range

They summer in the all of the United States except for the Southwestern states.

Other Useful Information

Eastern kingbirds are extremely aggressive to other birds in their territory and have no problems with chasing blue jays, crows, and hawks out of their area.

Eastern phoebe, gray kingbird, and the thick-billed kingbird.
