Blackburnian Warbler

Description

They have a bright orange throat and face. Males have a triangular eye/ear patch. Females and immatures have a paler throat. They have two white wing bars. Males have one thick white bar on the wing.

Voice

The song is a short series of high notes followed by a squeaky increasing trill. It ends on a high note.

Habitat

They can be found in conifer and mixed forests in the north. They are in pine-oak forests in the Appalachian Mountains.

Diet

They eat arthropods.

Range

They can be found on the eastern half of the United States.

Other Useful Information

The blackburnian warbler is the only warbler with an orange throat.

Similar Species

American redstart, Townsend’s warbler, and cerulean warbler.
