Description

American robins have a dark gray back, a yellow bill, and their famous brick red breasts.

Voice

These birds make short songs with a few notes ("tut tut tut" and "tyeep"). They sing these songs (phrases) two or three times and then pause and begin again.

Breeding

March to August

Habitat

Robins build their nest in open woods or even in neighborhoods. They hunt in fields, farmland, or lawns.

Diet

These birds eat fruit, berries, and insects. You can usually see them walking along lawns looking for earthworms.

Range

American robins live year-round in most of the United States. They spend their summers in Canada and the northernmost United States (including VT and NH).

These thrushes often feed together in large flocks on the ground.

Similar Species

Young robins have a spotted breast like many other thrushes.
