Description

The male American redstart is a small black bird with a white underbelly and bright orange wing patches and tail patches. The female American redstart is gray with yellow wing and tail patches.

Voice

The American redstart's song is "zee zee zee zee zirr" or "zeeta zeeta zeeta zeet." Their flight call is "tsweet."

These birds live in deciduous woods with a thick understory.
