Environmental Compliance Coordinator:

The Environmental Compliance Coordinator works under the supervision of the Basin Manager. The ECC is by all means, a basin ranger that completes projects, environmental compliance and visitor assistance at all seven flood control areas located in the Naugatuck River Basin. The ECC independently initiates action on the regular and recurring work associated with program responsibilities and carries projects through to completion. Other work is assessed by informal conference. Assistance may be provided on complex problems, issues having far reaching implications, or matters having significant impact on costs or resources. The ECC completes both environmental compliance and also serves as a basin ranger, working at and assisting at all 7 facilities in the NRB. A small portion of the duties include:

  • Annual Environmental Review Guide for Operations (ERGO) internal assessments with Project Managers and teams.
  • Prepares Corrective Action Plans (CAPS) for the respective projects in coordination with the Project Managers. This includes training project staff members regarding environmental regulations and their application to park operations.
  • Completes a variety of data calls and reports on items such as Pollution Prevention (P2) Plans and Spill Prevention, Control, Countermeasure Plans, Ozone-Depleting Substances.
  • Responsible for assuring that proper procedure is adhered to in the disposal of hazardous wastes. This includes the signing of hazardous waste manifests and the response to environmental spills that occur on Corps property in the river basin.
  • Participates in Natural Resources Management activities including: gathering baseline data for endangered and threatened species surveys, delineating wetlands, preparing wildlife mitigation and monitoring plans, and developing wetland mitigation banks, encroachment, and boundary line maintenance inspections on fee and leased lands. Currently, the present objectives include the creation of Master Plans for all six recreation areas in the NRB.
  • Performs flood control operations, inspections, and data collection.
  • Participates in patrols of project lands and waters in and out of the river basin by use of ATV, SUV or patrol boat to ensure compliance with Federal regulations, noting violations and taking appropriate action.
