Here at Hop Brook Lake we have a number of opportunities for volunteering. These include but are not limited to:

  • Trail maintenance
  • Disc Golf Course maintenance
  • Park Beautification
  • Program presentation to the public
  • Species Surveys
  • Eagle Scout programs

    Programs

    Park Rangers at Hop Brook lake can conduct on-site, off-site group programs and after school programs upon request. Park Rangers can prepare for you programs on topics like the Water Cycle, The History of the Corps of Engineers, Dam Tours, and Nature Walks that focus on identifying specific water or natural resources. Rangers can also prepare a program that deals with the Corps of Engineers and its missions, Career as a Ranger and much more. These programs can be tailored to your needs. Hop Brook Lake also provides hikes and talks that focus on merit badges for Boy and Girl Scout groups. Our most requested badge programs are the Naturalist, Forestry, and Wildlife Badges.     2011 Program Schedule

    Hop Brook Lake offers a variety of educational and recreational programs in the summer months. The programs are generally scheduled for the weekend afternoons and mornings of Thursdays and Fridays. These family-oriented activities range from safety programs on Water Safety to Flood Control discussions where you learn about the Corps of Engineers, its history, and take a tour of the dam. You can take a guided Nature Walk where you learn about wetlands, the local wildlife, plant-life, and much more about our natural resources. Programs are open to the public. All ages are welcome; however, we do ask adults to accompany their children.     Junior Ranger Program

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Hop Brook Lake presents an outdoor environmental education program.This program is free to kids 6-12 years of age. The program will be held at Hop Brook Lake Monday thru Friday for one week for each age group.

    The Junior Rangers dates for 2012 are TBD. Children Ages 6-9 yrs old will attend 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Chidren Ages 10-12 yrs will attend 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

    Registration for the program will be held at Hop Brook Lake's Project Office from June 6th to June 24th between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.

    A Junior Ranger is a young person who pledges to help protect our forests, parks, lakes, and wildlife-our environment.

    The Junior Ranger program consists of a series of interpretive programs and activities, conducted by a Park Ranger, covering the subject areas of "The Corps Ranger", "Environmental Protection", "Wildlife Management", "Forest Management", and "Water Resources." This program will inform young people about the Corps of Engineers, the Corps recreation and resource management programs, and help develop environmental ethics in these young people.

    Junior Project Manager

    Hop Brook Lake, also offers a summer program for graduated Junior Rangers. Called Junior Project Manager Program!

    This program is offered to all children that have already participated in the Junior Ranger Program. It will be a continual program that will allow participants to return until they are 13.

    The Junior Project Manager Program will be split into two age groups (7 years thru 10 years and 11 years thru 13 years). Each age group will attend a one week long program.

    A Junior Project Manager is one who has already pledged to help protect our natural environment and now wishes to gain further knowledge in a variety of environmental subjects so as to become aware of the importance of all life on earth.

    Topics touched upon are water quality, natural history, adaptation, forestry, geology, populations and resource conservation, air and groundwater pollutions and much more!

    Junior Project Manager Program dates for 2012 are TBD.

    Children Ages 7-10 yrs will attend 9-12 p.m.

    Children Ages 11-13 yrs will attend 1-4 p.m.

    Fishing Derby

    Hop Brook Lake Hosts The Kid's All American Fishing Derby!

    Hop Brook Lake's annual fishing derby will be held on TBD. Enjoy a fun filled day of free fishing with the whole family. Registration will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., all participants must sign in, in order to take part in the fishing derby. A horn will sound at 8:00 a.m. sharp signifying the begining of the fishing derby. The horn will again sound at 10:00 a.m. sharp signifying the end of the fishing derby. Fish have to be weighted and measured before the 10:00 a.m. horn in order to qualify fo the prizes. Prizes will be awarded to children ages 16 and under starting at at 10:00 a.m. Three age groups: 6 years old and under, 7 to 11 years old, and 12 to 16 years old. Prizes will be awarded in each age group.

    The event places emphasis on the importance of outdoor recreational opportunities by encouraging children to actively participate in the outdoors. The event will take place at the West Lawn Shelter.

    We encourage participants to release all the fish caught during the derby, once they have been weighed and measured at the sign-in station.
