Larkin State Bridle Trail
Southbury, Oxford, Naugatuck, and Waterbury

P assing through the rolling hills of western Connecticut between Danbury and Waterbury, one can see traces of a rail line. The route once boasted of providing the only direct passenger and freight service from Waterbury, Connecticut to Brewster, New York. In 1943, several years after the railway had been abandoned, a 10.3 mile section was given to the state by Dr. Charles L. Larkin for the purpose of establishing a state park and bridle trail.

The larkin Bridle Trail extends from Bristol Street in Waterbury to Kettletown Road in Southbury and is used today primarily by equestrians and hikers. In the winter, the trail is ideal for cross-country skiing.
