Current Events:
Barre Falls Dam is located within the towns of Hubbardston, Barre, Oakham, and Rutland,
Massachusetts. Nestled within the Massachusetts Department of
Conservation and Recreation (MDCR) 22,000 acre Ware River
Watershed, the area offers many recreational opportunities.
Recreational activities at Barre Falls Dam include canoeing,
bike riding, picnicking, hunting, fishing, hiking, sightseeing,
horseback riding, cross-country skiing, horseshoes, volleyball, and wildlife
observation. There is something for all visitors to enjoy. The
recreational benefits offered at Barre Falls Dam are an "extra
dividend" to the main purpose of this flood damage reduction
project.
The Corps maintains a small rustic picnic area
for your enjoyment. There are twelve picnic sites with tables
and fireplaces available on a "first-come, first-served" basis.
A picnic shelter is available and may reserved for a fee by
contacting the Project Office at (978) 928-4712. Picnic tables
and restrooms are accessible to the physically impaired.
Directions to Dam
From Gardner on Massachusetts Route 2, take Exit 22, Route
68. Travel south on Route 68 to Route 62, then two miles west to
the dam.
From Massachusetts Interstate 495, take 290 to
190 to the Holden Exit, Route 68. Take a left and follow Route
68 North until you come to Route 62. Take a left at the blinking
light. Barre Falls Dam is approximately two miles down on the
left.
2011 Season Activities
Enjoy canoeing, picnicking, 18-hole disc golf course,
fishing, geocaching, hiking, bike riding, wildlife observation,
and the scenery from sunrise to sunset. Hunting during season is
permitted.
