PROJECTS
Bucks Harbor, Machiasport, Maine -
Navigation Improvement and Maintenance Dredging
Executive Summary
The town of Machiasport requested maintenance dredging of the existing federal project in Bucks Harbor and a study to examine expanding the anchorage and channel to accommodate the larger fleet and growing aquaculture industry. A feasibility study was initiated in 2003, and a Feasibility Cost Share Agreement (FCSA) between the town of Machiasport and the Corps was executed in February 2004 to share the study cost. A field exploration program, surveys and resource studies were completed in late 2004. Engineering and economic analyses were underway in early 2005, when a lack of Federal funding forced the Corps to defer completion of feasibility efforts. Efforts were restarted in 2007.
Approval of the Decision Document was granted by the Corps' North Atlantic Division on April 23, 2009. The execution of the Project Partnership Agreement is scheduled for October 2009. This project is being funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The environmental window closes on April 9, 2010.
