Corps of Engineers releases former Saint Albans Air Force station Proposed Plan for public comment: Public meeting set for Nov. 15 in Saint Albans

CONCORD, Mass. – A Proposed Plan has been prepared to provide information to the public on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District recommended remedial action to address soil contamination at the site of the former Saint Albans Air Force Station in Saint Albans, Vermont.

 

The Proposed Plan and associated public meeting are intended to inform the community of the rationale for the selection of the preferred alternative and to encourage and facilitate community participation. The preferred alternative includes: removal of contaminated soil; off-site disposal of contaminated soil at a licensed facility; and backfill of soil removal area with clean fill.

 

The Corps of Engineers and the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (VTDEC) will hold an informational session followed by a public meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Saint Albans Town Clerk’s Office at 579 Lake Road in Saint Albans, Vermont, to present the Proposed Plan to address environmental issues at the former Saint Albans Air Force Station in Saint Albans.

 

The public meeting will include a presentation describing the project and the recommended remedy. This also will be an opportunity for public comments to be submitted – either verbally or in writing. Public comments on the Proposed Plan will be accepted through Dec. 9, 2016.

Written public comments on the Proposed Plan can be submitted to the Corps of Engineers through Dec. 9, 2016.
