Corps of Engineers awards contract for concrete repairs at Townshend Dam in Townshend,Vermont

CONCORD, Mass. Concrete repairs to the Townshend Dam in Townshend, Vermont, will be completed under the terms of a $257,880.00 contract recently awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District. Work will be accomplished by Kingsbury Companies, LLC of Waitsfield, Vermont. The contract was awarded on Aug. 30, 2016. Once a notice to proceed is issued construction will be authorized to start. Construction is scheduled to be completed within seven months.

 

The work on the spillway weir involves removing loose concrete, cleaning with high pressure water blast, and applying a bonding agent and mortar to the two worst spalled areas on the upstream face of the spillway weir, and a large spalled area on the downstream face of the spillway.

 

Work on the exterior stairs includes removing loose concrete material at areas having spalling and poor concrete consolidation, cleaning with a high pressure water blast, and applying a bonding agent and mortar to several areas at the exterior stairs on the intake tower. The work on the chimney includes removing loose material and filling the interior vertical wall cracks with a flexible sealant along the entire length at the crack in the chimney wall in the northwest corner of the control tower.

 

The work on the outlet channel northeast toe wall includes demolishing and removing the entire outlet channel northeast toe wall, and installing a new outlet channel northeast toe wall, with a new chain link fence, to duplicate what is currently there. The project will be managed by the Corps and all work will be accomplished under the supervision of a Corps’ Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
