Corps of Engineers Announce Changes to Recreation Areas

Published Sept. 13, 2016

CONCORD, Mass. – The Thomaston Dam, Northfield Brook Lake and Black Rock Lake (Thomaston, CT) recreation areas are now closed for the 2016 season. The recreation areas are closed to vehicle traffic, however walk-ins are welcome during daylight hours.

During the off-season, the Vista Picnic Area and top of Thomaston and Black Rock Dams will remain open until 3:00 pm. Visitors should be cognizant of parking restrictions along public roadways and project access gates, as applicable.

The changes mainly affect trailbike riding, the Leadmine Brook model aircraft field, and hunting and snowmobile activities at Thomaston Dam. The Corps made the changes in order to bring all projects in line with the current designated recreation season at all other Naugatuck River Basin and New England District projects.

The parks will re-open the weekend prior to the Memorial Day holiday, 20-21 May 2017.
