Corps of Engineers awards $319,500 contract to replace incoming power supply line at Fox Point barrier

CONCORD, Mass. The Fox Point Hurricane Barrier incoming power supply line in Providence, Rhode Island, will be replaced under the terms of a $319,500.00 contract issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.

Work will be accomplished by Robert F. Audet, Inc., of East Greenwich, Rhode Island. The contract was awarded on Nov. 6, 2013. Construction is scheduled to take approximately three months to complete from the date of receipt of the notice to proceed.

Work includes removal, replacement, terminations and testing of underground high voltage primary conductors within eight existing conduits (three conductors per conduit) from the National Grid point of demarcation in existing manhole No. 1 to existing 11kv/4.16kv Transformers A and B on the main operating floor of the barrier. Existing control wiring within the conduit from the National Grid point of demarcation in existing Manhole No. 1 to the switchgear at the main operating floor also is to be removed, replaced, terminated and tested.

The work also will include the removal, disposal and replacement of bituminous concrete pavement and two manhole frames and covers at manhole No. 3. 

The project will be managed by the Corps and all work will be accomplished under the supervision of a Corps’ Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
