CONCORD, MA – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District announces that on May 21, 2013 the swimming beach at Northfield Brook Lake in Thomaston, Conn., will be closed until further notice, due to unsafe conditions. Upon inspection, hazards found include 1-2 foot of sediment, aquatic weeds, tree branches and vegetation throughout the bottom of the swim area as a result of past flood events.

There is no determination at this time as to whether the beach will reopen.  It should be noted that the remainder of the park is open to the public, to include picnic tables, picnic shelters and restrooms.

For further information, please contact the Thomaston Dam Office at 860-283-5540.
