201 Marginal Street LLC seeks Corps of Engineers permit for proposed work at its facility in Chelsea

Published March 13, 2012

CONCORD, Mass. – The 201 Marginal Street LLC is seeking a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District to conduct work in waters of the United States for proposed construction at its facility in Chelsea, Mass.

The applicant proposes to rebuild the pre-existing wharf and to install a 10-slip pile-supported floating docking facility within the Chelsea River at 201 Marginal Street in Chelsea.  This proposal does not include any dredging.

Essential Fish Habitat has been designated within Boston Harbor for a total of 26 species of economically valuable marine fishery species. The proposed project involves the installation of floating structures over sub-tidal areas. However, the Corps has made a preliminary determination that the site-specific adverse effects will not be substantial. Further consultation with the National Marine Fisheries Service regarding Essential Fish Habitat conservation recommendations is being conducted and will be concluded prior to the final permit decision.

The application for the federal permit was filed by the applicant with the Corps of Engineers in compliance with Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act, which provides for federal regulation of any work in, or affecting navigable waters of the United States.

The public notice can be viewed on the Corps website at http://www.nae.usace.army.mil. Select Regulatory and then public notices or go directly to http://www.nae.usace.army.mil/Regulatory/Public%20Notices/.
