Corps awards contract for elevator replacement to Railroad Bridge at Cape Cod Canal in Buzzards Bay

CONCORD, Mass. Construction services for elevator replacement to the Cape Cod Canal Vertical Lift Railroad Bridge in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, will be completed under the terms of a $2,826,080.00 contract recently issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.

 

Work will be accomplished R. Zoppo Corporation, of Stoughton, Massachusetts. Once a notice to proceed is issued construction will be authorized to start. The project is expected to take approximately one year to remove the existing elevators and replace them. The contract was awarded on Sept. 28, 2018.

 

Work includes providing two complete elevator systems (rack and pinion), one for each tower that is appropriate for the enclosed shaft dimensions of the railroad bridge. The manufacturer must be capable of maintaining the system in a timely manner upon request.

 

Work includes equipping new doors and elevator shaft with a transparent material on the side facing the bridge; and providing new electrical systems and controls for the new elevator systems to include new conduits for elevator electrical lines. A contract option includes providing for one new stop and landing in each tower.

 

The project will be managed by the Corps and all work will be accomplished under the supervision of a Corps’ Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
