CONCORD, Mass. – With the release of the President’s Budget for fiscal year 2018 for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works on May 25, 2017, the Corps’ New England District looks forward to continued operations and funding in fiscal year 2018 that starts on Oct. 1, 2017.  

In Connecticut, the budget proposes continuing funding for the operations and maintenance of the 8 Corps-managed flood risk management reservoirs and the Stamford Hurricane Barrier, and proposes $400,000 for maintenance dredging of the Patchogue River and $300,000 for design and other related efforts in preparation for future maintenance dredging of Greenwich Harbor. It also provides funds for project condition surveys, inspection of completed works, and inspection of completed environmental projects.

In Massachusetts, the budget proposes continuing funding for operations and maintenance of the 12 Corps-managed flood risk management reservoirs, the Cape Cod Canal and the New Bedford Hurricane Barrier. Additionally, the budget proposes $58 million in funding for construction of Boston Harbor Deep Draft Improvements, $500,000 for design and other related efforts in preparation for future maintenance dredging of Plymouth Harbor and repairs to Plymouth Long Beach Dike, $200,000 for design and other related efforts in preparation for future maintenance dredging of Newburyport Harbor, and funding for project condition surveys, inspection of completed works and inspection of completed environmental projects.

In New Hampshire, the budget proposes continuing funding for operations and maintenance of the 6 Corps-managed flood risk management reservoirs, funding for project condition surveys and inspection of completed works.

In Vermont, the budget proposes continuing funding for operations and maintenance of the 5 Corps-managed flood risk management reservoirs, funding for inspection of completed works, and funding for operations of the Narrows of Lake Champlain and Gordon’s Landing (both New York District projects).

In Rhode Island, the budget proposes continuing funding for operations and maintenance of the Fox Point Hurricane Barrier and Woonsocket Flood Risk Management projects, $300,000 in funding for the Rhode Island Coastline feasibility study, as well as funding for project condition surveys, inspection of completed works, and inspection of completed environmental projects.

In Maine, the budget proposes funding $4.2 million for maintenance dredging of Saco River, $2.5 million for maintenance dredging of York Harbor, and $400,000 for maintenance dredging of Wells Harbor. It proposes continuing funding for operations and maintenance of disposal area monitoring, inspection of completed works, project condition surveys, inspection of completed environmental projects, and surveillance of northern boundary waters.

Additionally, the District will receive funding from its higher headquarters for Regulatory permitting activities and the Continuing Authorities Program and other work.
