Public comments on former Saint Albans Air Force station Proposed Plan due by Dec. 9

CONCORD, Mass. – Public comments on the Proposed Plan prepared by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District recommending remedial action to address soil contamination at the site of the former Saint Albans Air Force Station in Saint Albans, Vermont, are due by Dec. 9, 2016.

 

The Proposed Plan is intended to inform the community of the rationale for the selection of the preferred alternative and to encourage and facilitate community participation. The preferred alternative includes: removal of contaminated soil; off-site disposal of contaminated soil at a licensed facility; and backfill of soil removal area with clean fill.

 

The Corps of Engineers and the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (VTDEC) held an informational session and public meeting on Nov. 15, 2016 in Saint Albans, Vermont, to present the Proposed Plan to address environmental issues at the former Saint Albans Air Force Station in Saint Albans.

 

The public meeting included a presentation describing the project and the recommended remedy and provided an opportunity for the public to submit comments on the Proposed Plan. Public comments on the Proposed Plan will be accepted through Dec. 9, 2016.

Written public comments on the Proposed Plan can be submitted to the Corps of Engineers through Dec. 9, 2016.
